Learning Outcome 5/6

Part Five of FIVE!

Writing has always been enjoyable for me, but writing for fun is a little different than incorporating sources into an academic essay. Learning how to properly cite sources and revise essays on a local level was a challenge and will continue to be an area of improvement. Fortunately, I understand the importance of citing and also have a solid grasp on how to give credit where it is due. In my significant writing prompt  you can see I used a few different sources. At the end of my essay I have all of those articles listed under my works cited page, using MLA guidelines provided in class or in the citation book we used. In that same essay prompt I had to sift through to find local errors like spelling, grammer, and punctuation. Usually I’ll read the essay very slowly and scan for errors, although it can be difficult when the writing is in my own words. I think it is much more effective to have a peer read it and try and find errors. I also had the help of one of the writing tutors Jack Moore. Now while I write I hear in his voice, “You’re going to need something stronger than a comma here.” I really appreciated Jack’s help and I wouldn’t be able to identify errors if I hadn’t worked with him.
