BLOG 10: The Argument of the Century

The integration of STEM curricula has made schooling for engineers more efficient and effective. Although it is structured, it is not easy, by any means. The concentration of materials in STEM courses is very demanding so the students challenge themselves beyond their perceived limits. The STEM process may seem like it has no flaws, but some would argue there is an essential missing piece; the arts. Yo-Yo Ma suggests that with the integration of art in this field, there would be an entirely new language developed and the learning outcome would be substantially more advanced than before. Ma’s assertion is certainly admirable and could take learning to a new level, however, there simply isn’t enough time to incorporate the arts into the already demanding curricula. The STEM program is simplified to a point of perfection, where if you took out any component, the entire program would be thrown out of whack!
